Nicky Newton-King: Designing a Socially Responsible Investment Index
The fact that the whole of this can be spit out by ChatGPT in under a few seconds makes us, who wish we went to such business schools, re-think our thoughts. All of this brainstorming can really be amplified by a 100X with ChatGPT or other AI tools with a good enough prompt. Seriously, education is cheap these days and it is the best time to be alive in that regard (i.e. if you want to be educated), but I understand that if you wanna get high-paying c-suite jobs, you gotta have degree/certificates/network from such institutes. BUT for those who don't wanna work for others, I don't see any value in going to such expensive schools other than for networking.
Not a fan of video learning. Video learning can present barriers to learning when interpersonal skills such as face-to-face interaction, eye contact, gaze, body language, and voice inflection are not transmitted. Another barrier is intercommunication delays when the timing of visual and audio signals, known to be effective in communication, are often delayed. Like self check out counters many people are becoming accustomed to not having to interact with others. This practice of video learning may also be contributing to the loneliness epidemic. Per an October 19, 2022 article in Psychology Today, excessive internet use is only one of many forms of technology compulsion, along with excessive gaming, smartphone, or social media use. Technology compulsion, like other forms of behavior compulsion, may lead to obsessive thinking and behavior and feelings of anxiety when not connected. Technology compulsion might also lead to rumination about online relationships and activities, and an over-dependence and over-engagement with online platforms. Live online classroom learning has become something else to add to it. Technology compulsion can be said to be just as bad as people who are still living in fear of contracting a virus and continue wearing a face mask when in a public environment.

Great Method this is the way of teaching. For the persons that are introverted, think this way, we all have something to give, something to shere, if you are not participating you are not giving and your are keeping it from yourself. Please share, the world wants to hear you and everyday give the world the best of you

Citing this law as unfair or unequal because Islamic law allows Christians to leave their religion to embrace Islam yet forbids Muslims to leave Islam, falsely assumes a secular or liberal presupposition that all religions are equal or that it is an individual choice. Firstly, there is no violation of the equality principle. Similar things must be treated similarly. Dissimilar things must be treated dissimilar. Leaving Islam (the truth) for (another religion) falsehood is not the same as leaving Christianity (falsehood) for Islam (the truth). The liberal will assume that the two religions are the same. This is a false assumption that we can prove. Therefore, the debate shifts from the apostasy law to the veracity of Islam. I welcome that debate. Secondly, the atomistic or individualistic approach is false. Muslims are under no obligation to adopt such an approach. In fact, theories on social influence & conformity reject such an approach. In a nutshell, human beings are not merely individuals. The choices they make impact society.
Finally, the notion of the harm principle can be applied to the apostasy law: the actions of individuals should be limited only to prevent harm to other individuals. Apostasy in Islam is considered as a great harm to society & to the individual who leaves Islam. For instance, hell is a great harm to the individual (the final abode of apostates). Allowing people to leave Islam without a mechanism to prevent them can lead to social fragmentation of the Muslim social group which inflicts harm on the community (I appreciate this requires unpacking as the structure of Islamic society is different from a liberal one). Liberals will contend by rejecting this application of the harm principle. Our response is that they have metaphysical & social assumptions that we can prove false. The debate now becomes centred around the idea of the existence of hell & our view on society. If true (& we can prove them to be true), the harm principle renders apostasy laws as coherent & moral.
*The secular West’s double standards are glaringly evident from how they deal with “irrationality”. When this so-called irrationality is linked with religion it’s a problem. However, when it comes to things like “gender fluidity” it’s completely fine. Another example that can be mentioned is how the “clairvoyant” Edgar Cayce was extremely popular during the early 20th-century.* And it’s the same story when it comes to aliens. The secular West, unable to fight its innate tendency to believe in the ghayb, proposes the likely existence of a non-human species that could communicate with our world - the same way Muslims believe in the jinn Of course, all of this is done in the name of their own religion: science. They even have their own priests in the form of astrobiologists, etc. *This belief of theirs is of the same nature as ours. Even if they try and add some pseudo-empiricist spice: there may be tangible elements pointing towards the existence of aliens They fail to grasp how we, too, say there are “tangible elements” regarding the influences of the jinn within our world*
Liberal modernists and feminists will feign outrage, but their moral system is what creates this situation. Liberal principles of individual choice, female empowerment, and destruction of patriarchy create a society of people who have no family to take care of them in their old age. The liberal feminist solution to this problem is to create more welfare programs. What this means is that they want the elderly to live alone in what are essentially pods, their only human interaction being with "care" takers to check if they're still alive once a week. Let me put it like this. The only human solution is for the elderly to be surrounded by loving family in their old age. The only way to get that is patriarchy, gender roles, and other limitations on individual freedom. But the liberal mind can not allow any of that. So the elderly will continue to suffer, and liberal feminists and modernists will continue to pretend like they care about humanity.
And now you are backed by Bill & Melinda Gates foundation, great work!
Hey HBS. I'm trying to hunt down an old clip from the Steve Allen show in which his demonstration of the Polaroid camera went awry. From what I understand, the moment made for great TV and sold cameras like crazy, but I can't dig it up anywhere online. Any chance your team knows where I can find it?
Unfortunately, we don't have it, sorry, and we're not sure where you can find it. I'm guessing RUclips has been no help!
it's a dream to be seated there! I an MBA from MIT, Pune, India. One of the best colleges in India, But I wish I had teachers like these, environment like this. Harvard has been my childhood dream and I am working on it! I hope to make it someday!
This gotta be the dumbest thing I’ve seen in a while. I’ve worked in c suite business for years and you’ll never hear these types of discussions the professors trying to facilitate. The students bringing up race and discrimination like lmfaoooo. The decision to close the mine would’ve been made within 30 minutes. There would be an investigation into how and why the miner died, any previous reports of safety at the mine, and decisions based on that. This is so stupid I can’t believe people work their whole life to get a degree from this place!
Я беспокоюсь за тебя, Сэм Будь внимательнее к себе, пожалуйста
Thank you harvard crimson for the posting. All Americans think of Harvard as Law and Business foundations of our country. It is great to hear and see that the Harvard D3 program in the business college is not completely taking over the department. Thanks.
